Message from the President of the Republic of Finland

The Finnish National Organisation of the Unemployed has been working for the benefit of the unemployed for 30 years. During that time, the organisation and its member organisations have promoted social reforms and acted in many ways to support the unemployed. 71 member organisations are active throughout Finland, engaged in highly effective work both locally and nationally.

An exceptional year lies behind us. The pandemic has brought apprehension and sorrow; we have experienced loss. The tough economic climate and restrictions have affected us in very different ways. For many, a difficult situation has deteriorated further. The work of organisations of the unemployed has been particularly important at such a time.

Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland. Patron of the 30th anniversary of the Finnish National Organisation of the Unemployed

The activities of the Finnish National Organisation of the Unemployed and its member organisations are governed by a strong sense of community. This diverse work creates inclusion and helps at building the future. Although public services play an important role in Finland, volunteering and organisational work supported by local and central government are of great importance to our society.

I congratulate the Finnish National Organisation of the Unemployed on its 30th anniversary and at the same time warmly thank all of you involved in its activities for your valuable work.
